Inter-state nurses who hold registration with AHPRA as both a registered Division 1 nurse and as a registered midwife and who hold a graduate certificate in child health nursing (or similar), may be eligible to undertake post graduate studies to meet the Victorian standard to practice as a MCH nurse. Contact RMIT University or Latrobe University to discuss educational equivalents between Victoria and other jurisdictions qualifications.
The educational standard required to practice as a MCH nurse in Victoria is set by the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development MCH Program Standards 2009, Standard 4:1(a)
Nurses from overseas interested in joining the Victorian Maternal and Child Health Service must be eligible to work in Australia and be registered with AHPRA as both a registered Division 1 nurse plus as a registered midwife plus hold a post graduate qualification in MCH nursing that is recognised in the State of Victoria, before applying for employment.
- Re-entry and Refresher opportunities for maternal and child health nurses who have been out of active workforce participation
Re-entry courses may be tailored for nurses previously registered as a maternal and child health nurse in Victoria but who may have been out of active service.
MCH nurses who have maintained their registration but have been away from direct service delivery in MCH for a period of time may consider a Refresher course.
The degree of time lapse since active MCH service is critical for eligibility to undertake a refresher/re-entry or for enrolling for the complete course. Please seek further information from either of the teaching universities listed below.
There are currently no scholarships available for Re-entry and Refresher courses
